The Seven Month of Your Pregnancy

The Final Stretch Begins!

“By 28 weeks, your baby may be dreaming, blinking, and settling into position for birth.” – NHS
Calendar that shows the three trimesters, months and weeks of pregnancy

Welcome to Month 7 of pregnancy - you’ve officially entered the third trimester! This month is all about growth, preparation, and nesting instincts in full swing. Your baby is packing on the grams, perfecting reflexes, and possibly even turning head-down. Meanwhile, you might be juggling excitement, fatigue, Braxton Hicks contractions, and the ever-growing bump.

Now is a great time to fine-tune your birth preferences, pack your hospital bag, and look ahead to your postpartum needs. You’re nearly there!

Week 28: Welcome to the Third Trimester

Your baby is the size of an eggplant and might already be dreaming during REM sleep! Their lungs are working hard behind the scenes, and you may notice stronger kicks (or rolls) in response to light, music, or your voice.

Fatigue is probably back so try to take it easy and listen to your body. I know that there is a lot happening and you have probably realised that time flies but make a list what needs to be done before the baby arrives and if there is anyone that can help you with any of your 'to-dos'.

Partner Tip: Time to start thinking about the hospital bag, your birth preferences and help prep the nursery! Emotionally, have an open conversation about birth and postpartum expectations.

Week 29: Muscles, Blinks & Braxton Hicks

Now about the size of an acorn squash, your baby is blinking and smoothing out those once-wrinkly features. Their brain is working overtime, developing the neurons they’ll need for life outside. Have you been able to notice more define baby movements? You are now feeling your baby more and more and noticing how much stronger your baby's kicks and punches are becoming!

Having emotional ups and downs and feeling overwhelmed is normal at this stage for both parents. Try to join groups of other expectant parents - it can be so useful (even a relief!) to feel that you're not the only one going through all these emotions, having the same questions, that you are not alone...

Partner Tip: Think comfort: supportive pillows, snacks, foot massages. Keep communication open about postpartum plans and expectations if you haven't discussed anything yet you might want to start putting some plans in place.

Week 30: Hiccups, Swelling & Diaphragms

Your baby is growing so quickly and is now the size of a cabbage. You might notice that your baby may be hiccupping regularly - completely normal and even adorable! Their lungs and diaphragm are strengthening, and they’re nearly ready for life outside. Are you also experiencing more hiccups?

Having pelvic pressure and looser joints is normal (thank you relaxin!) but for any concerns you might have, make sure that you discuss them with your care team.

Partner Tip: Make sure paperwork (like parental leave) is sorted. If you haven’t joined a birth prep class together yet, now’s the time!

Week 31: Head Down & Counting Down

At about the size of a coconut, your baby is now likely turning head-down, tracking light, and processing the sounds of the outside world (hello, familiar voices!). Their body is filling out and their lungs are almost fully mature.

As mentioned in the previous month, your balance might feel a bit off and this can also impact your posture - have you noticed sitting or walking differently? Some might notice that they're leaking colostrum (look for small yellow or orange stains on the inside of your bra cups) which is totally normal, but it is still not time to harvest it.

Partner Tip: Review the birth plan, get familiar with what early labour might feel like, and prep emotionally for the big day. Now’s also the time to discuss support for the postpartum period.
